Bannock4Books
Macdonald School students were determined to make a difference to the lives of Ethiopian children at imagine1day schools. The student council made a commitment to take action, and the grades 6 and 7 students designed posters and sold bannock to raise money for books for students in Ethiopia.
The Bannock4Books Sale was a huge success and there was a high demand for the bannock, which was sold on April 11th at West Point Grey Academy’s playground. In fact, all 200 pieces were gone in approximately 10 minutes. Teacher Dee Hughes-Slade and her sister were thrilled that the bannock they cooked was appreciated and enjoyed by so many children!
Bannock4Books is a project with lots of heart. It helps create an understanding that the students at Macdonald have the power to impact the lives of others positively. The students demonstrated the value of social responsibility and learned about the impact of their leadership. An inspiring group of educators, Diana Liao, Stella Lee, Erin Williams and Dee Hughes-Slade believed in what their students could do and supported this successful initiative.
