North Vancouver — On May 16th 2011, young performers from all over the lower mainland are coming together at Capilano University’s Birch Theatre to help raise money for children’s education in Ethiopia. This very special evening called OneNight for 1Day, will showcase the talent of young performers while raising awareness and funds for the not-for-profit organization imagine1day.

“imagine1day puts 100% of proceeds from Creatributions™ towards projects in Ethiopia, they encourage creativity and community, and they work towards attainable goals that are beneficial to the community as a whole,” explains Ella Batten, a Capilano University student and driving force behind the event.

The OneNight for 1Day Team

After volunteering at an elementary school in Peru, Ella realized the crucial importance of education and the opportunities it gives to young children in the developing world.

“In North America, we take for granted that our children will all get an education. But this is not the case in many developing countries and I wanted to figure out a way to help,” says Ella.

This year’s event will feature performances by classical violinists, local dance companies, spoken word, jazz and more…An event like this provides these young performers with the opportunity to participate in a professional caliber show and will have the chance to perform in front of a large audience.

The event takes place on May 16th at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $20 and will be available online.
